What are Mini Dental Implants?

Mini dental implants use a smaller amount of metal to fully replace a tooth. Mini implants are easier to place and more suited for patients with thinner bone density or smaller mouths. The implant can be used to place other restorations, such as dental crowns. Mini implants are just as durable and long-lasting as larger implants.

Why would you need Mini Dental Implants?

You may need a mini dental implant if you are completely missing one or more of your natural teeth. The implant is placed underneath the gum and slightly into the bone. Mini implants are better suited to patients who have smaller mouths or who have thinner, weaker bone density. They provide a secure anchor so that a crown can be used to replace the missing tooth.

What are the benefits of Mini Dental Implants?

Mini dental implants use less metal, which is often a concern for many patients. They are easier to place and often heal quicker than larger implants. If you have a small mouth or smaller teeth, a mini implant is ideal for replacing teeth without adding too much bulk. To determine if you’re a good candidate for mini dental implants, you’ll need to come in for a consultation.

What can you expect during the procedure for Mini Dental Implants?

You will need a consultation, exam and series of x-rays prior to having dental implants placed. During the procedure itself, the mini implant is inserted underneath the gums and into the bone. A retainer may be used to keep the implant in place. The incision will be sutured and you will be given post-surgical instructions on how to care for the incision site and implant. You can expect the implant to bond with the bone in under six months. You’ll then have to come back in to have a dental crown made and placed on top of the mini implant.
